John Lawson, a Montreal based strategic business consultant, is drawing on his extensive expertise in business and commercial aviation to assist in the start-up of “Project Phoenix.”

One time former President of Canadair Business Aircraft, John started his aviation career with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1957, serving in a variety of operational, staff and command positions. Born in England, he emigrated to Canada and graduated at the Royal Military College of Canada and the University of Toronto, achieving an Honours BSc in Electrical Engineering. He left the Canadian Air Force in 1975 as Lieutenant Colonel to pursue a civilian business career. He joined Woods Gordon Management Consultants in Toronto and was employed in their project management practice on major capital projects and operational audits.

In 1980 he returned to aviation joining Canadair as Director of Government Requirements and was latterly appointed Director of Program Management for the Challenger Business Jet. In 1984 he moved to Andrew Canada as head of business development for government business - a new departure for this commercial microwave company.

In 1989, John was invited to return to Canadair, now part of Bombardier Aerospace, where he was appointed Vice President of Challenger Product Support. He subsequently became Vice President, Marketing and International Sales. In 1995 he was appointed President of Canadair Business Aircraft and latterly President of Bombardier Business Aircraft Sales with responsibility for the worldwide marketing and sales of all Learjet and Bombardier corporate jets. John retired from Bombardier in 2001 and now sits on several Boards, both business and non-profit.
